"The Music Man" to Open a Two Week Run
The Encino based Young Actors
Company (YAC) will open a two
week run of its production of
Meredith Wilson's Tony award
winning musical "The Music Man" at
the New Performing Arts Center at
California State University,
Northridge.
Mark Steines, Co-Host of
Entertainment Tonight and Leanza
Cornett, Miss America 1992 and
Co-Host of Lifetime Television's New
Attitude are active members of the
YAC's Board of Governors, as is
actress Mindy Cohn ("Natalie" from
The Facts of Life), who will host the
opening night performance and gala
afterwards.
The Young Actors Company is
dedicated to teaching teens and
young adults, through the discipline
of theater, self-esteem, confidence,
respect, cooperation, public
speaking and other life tools
necessary for them to thrive in
today's environment. The Young
Actors Company is a nonprofit
501(c)(3) organization whose
program is offered at no cost to the
students.
The Young Actors Company is an
auditioned based, not tuition based,
program. A cast of over 60 kids and young
adults travel from Los Angeles, Culver City,
Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and all over
the San Fernando Valley to be part of the
program. In addition, YAC has obtained the
volunteer services of "The Masters of
Harmony," an award-winning musical group
who will serve as the barbershop quartet for
"The Music Man."
YAC was founded three years ago to fill
the gap left from school budget cuts
eliminating many of the city's theatre arts
programs.
